Newsticker stacks set

The Newsticker stack is a very simple but yet powerful stacks set that enables you to create a Newsticker with your latest and greatest news items in a simple text form or unordered list.

Example

Below a demonstration video of the Newsticker stacks set in action, the download file comes
with the demonstration RapidWeaver project files.

More examples
Some other examples of the Newsticker Stacks set in action on the Sereno and XXL Themes from Henk Vrieselaar.

Newsticker Manual

Probably the example video and the stacks self are so easy to use that you don't need a manual at all.
But that could be only our opinion ... so here some more details about the stack HUDs and settings:
Newsticker Styled
Number of items
Set the number of text items that you would like to use in your Newsticker

Start after (ms)
Start the Newsticker after this number of ms, use a number of 0 if the Newsticker should start immediately.

Delay (ms)
Delay between Newsticker lines

Speed (ms)
Speed at which the characters of an item appear.

Height (px)
Height for the total Newsticker element, note that this value should be set to match the largest text item since this could take up to more than a single line of text.

Stop on hover
Automatically stop the current Newsticker item and show its entire text when hovering you mouse over the Newsticker. Note that the Newsticker automatically resumes if you move your mouse to another position.

Pre character(s)
Select some pre character(s) that should appear before the text of each Newsticker item. For example “ |” and “_” (without the quotation marks).

Text color
Select a color for the Newsticker text.
Font size (px)
Font size for the Newsticker text.

Bold and Italic
Check if the Newsticker text should appear in Bold and/or Italic.

Custom CSS
Custom CSS like for example: font-family: Arial; text-aling: right;
Note that you should ad the closing ; character.

Extra Content
Check if the Newsticker text should appear in an Extra Content position. Note that this requires a compatible theme and you should set the position number in the input field. The default Stack settings as for every stack like the margins, paddings, border, etc. are disabled when using the Extra Content feature.

Note
Note that for all the input fields containing values in ms or px: all it takes is the number so thats without the input of ms or px.
Newsticker Custom
Number of items
Set the number of text items that you would like to use in your Newsticker

Start after (ms)
Start the Newsticker after this number of ms, use a number of 0 if the Newsticker should start immediately.

Delay (ms)
Delay between Newsticker lines

Speed (ms)
Speed at which the characters of an item appear.

Width (px)
Width of the Newsticker form element, note that this value should be set to match the largest text line.

Repeat the Newsticker
Repeat the Newsticker when all lines are shown, uncheck if you wan't to show each line only one time.

Text color
Select a color for the Newsticker text.

Font size (px)
Font size for the Newsticker text.

Bold and Italic
Check if the Newsticker text should appear in Bold and/or Italic.
Custom CSS
Custom CSS like for example: font-family: Arial; text-aling: right;
Note that you should ad the closing ; character.

Note
Note that for all the input fields containing values in ms or px: all it takes is the number so thats without the input of ms or px.

FAQ

All currently known FAQ items are shown below
As from version 1.2.0 all problems with special characters should be resolved. Although in some situations RapidWeaver is not replacing the " (quote character) with the html entity value of ". In case this happens, replace the " with ". Note that this only affects the Newsticker custom.
In some situations the change (in Version 1.2 to 1.3) from a slider into an input field for the Number of lines leaves a strange number value. So if you previously selected a value of 5 this might show a value of 4,76... All it takes in this situation is to manually change the value to 5.

Newsticker Stacks set information

The Newsticker Stacks set features these 2 stacks called Newsticker Styled and Newsticker Custom. The Newsticker Styled handles more than a single line of text and you are able to use an entire text item as hyperlink. All the text items of this Newsticker are automatically repeated. Besides that the styled version also has this built-in feature for placing the Newsticker directly inside an Extra Content Area.
Note that this requires an Extra Content compatible theme.

The Newsticker Custom is just a little different in the case that it only handles text lines instead of text items. This makes it possible to use multiple Newstickers (of this type) below each other and create some special custom effects as shown in the example project.

What you get when purchasing this Stacks set:
  • Starting with the 2 stacks Newsticker Styled and Newsticker Custom;
  • RapidWeaver example projects as shown in the video demonstration;

Requirements:
  • RapidWeaver 4 or 5;
  • Stacks Plugin 1.4 or above.

Version information:

For those who are interested in the changes made to the Newsticker Stacks set.
Compatibility update for the Stacks plugin version 2, releases on 27 november 2011.
The Newsticker as known in version 1.2.0 is renamed to Newsticker Custom and Newsticker Styled is added as a new ticker stack. Most important difference between these 2 stacks is that the Newsticker Styled handles more than a single line of text and you are able to use an entire text item as hyperlink. Besides that the styled version also has this built-in feature for placing the Newsticker directly inside an Extra Content Area. Note that this requires an Extra Content compatible theme.

In this release the following options where added or changed for the Newsticker Custom stack:
  • The identify stack checkbox has been removed from the HUD;
  • The Unique ID item has also been removed from the HUD since this “uniqueness” is now handled internally;
  • Added checkboxes for Bold and/or Italic text;
  • On user request the Number of lines slider has been changed into a free input field.
In some situations the change from a slider into an input field for the Number of lines leaves a strange number value. So if you
previously selected a value of 5 this might show a value of 4,76... All it takes in this situation is to manually change the value to 5 again.

Released on 11 april 2010.
In this version the following options where added:
  • Add multiple versions of the Newsticker on a single page, up to 5 times;
  • Perform the Newsticker only one time, repeat checkbox;
  • Start the Newsticker after a given number of ms;
  • Use a slider to simply control the number of Newsticker text lines, currently up to 20.
Fixed an issue with special characters.

Released on 23 october 2010.
Some under the hood changes, no public release.
First public release (on 15 july 2010) of the Newsticker stack, based on the RapidWeaver Snippet from Henk Vrieselaar.
